My entire life I dreamed of becoming a published author. And many people, including myself, assumed that when it happened, it would be a book based on my life thanks to some pretty dramatic events that occurred in my 58 years on this planet. And while I’m not ruling that out in the future, as I became more serious about this dream I realized I wanted to put something out into this world that brings more positivity into it - not drama. So, I nixed the idea of an autobiography and started thinking about what that type of book would look like.
So, I personally love starting my day out with my inspirational books, calendars, emails, and social media sites. Yes, I admit that might be overkill to some, but for me it’s akin to drinking an energy drink or getting a workout in first thing in the morning - it gives me a rush, a natural boost of adrenaline and endorphins and what have you.
So ultimately I decided that I wanted to contribute to that genre and the next step was figuring out how I could do so in a unique way. Enter acrostics. Truth be told I didn’t know they were acrostics and that’s simply because acrostic was a word I was not familiar with. I just knew that I loved creating them.
Now if you too have never heard that word or perhaps have heard it but didn’t know what it meant - let’s get that straightened out first. According to Merriam-Webster, an acrostic is “a composition usually in verse in which sets of letters (such as the initial or final letters of the lines) taken in order form a word or phrase or a regular sequence of letters of the alphabet.” Got it? Good. Ok, now that we’re all on the same page - I can resume the background story of how acrostics became the theme of my positive book.
So it actually started when I saw a sample of an acrostic on one of the positive Instagram accounts I follow that posts positive quotes and sayings with pretty pictures. It said Hope and the acrostic was “Hold On Pain Ends.” I had never seen a positive word explained or expressed in that way, and I immediately thought – what if I started creating my own positive word acrostics and then create an Instagram account to share this positive inspiration every day? But, as I started developing the page – I realized I didn’t want the words on plain backgrounds - I wanted them to stand out. The problem was - and still is that I can’t draw a stick figure. And as I reminded myself of this I thought - wait - yes I can! Admittedly not well. And wouldn’t that make it more endearing? Ummm…probably not for a 58-year-old woman. But…..what about if they were drawn by said woman’s 4-year-old rescue pup? And what if the drawings were him and his Momma enacting or acting out those words? And with that Oscar Peck’s Pawsitivity account was created - on Instagram, then TikTok, Instagram, and later on Pinterest.
From there I started thinking hey - when I have a lot of these inspirational acrostics completed, it would make a good little daily devotional or page a day calendar or heck a children’s book…
And the rest as they say is history. So, without further ado, welcome to Oscar Pecks Pawsitivity!
